EDISON, NJ - The Summit High School Gymnastics season drew to a close with the Hilltoppers -- competing against 65 individuals from 15 teams -- taking fifth place at the NJSIAA North Sectionals. Host school Bishop Ahr (112.95) claimed the top spot, followed by Old Bridge (108.925), Cranford (108.875) and Westfield (106.05).
Summit's team total of 103.8 was fueled by a number of strong individual performances, including:
The sophomore led the Hilltoppers on Vault (8.95 15th place), Bars (8.8, 7th place) and Floor (9.125 11th place). She finished 25th overall with a 32.175. Singow earned All-North II Section honors for her bars and floor performances.
The senior co-Captain led the team's All-Around performances finishing 19th overall with a 33.475, and posting 25th place on vault (8.725).
The junior co-Captain finished 21st overall with a 32.975, and was 20th on vault (8.8) and 17th on bars (8.3).
Other notable efforts and finishes came from sophomore Emma Claus, who finished 22nd overall with a 32.95 and was also 22nd on beam (8.5); sophomore Isabel Claus (8.725 tied for 25th on vault); sophomore Margaret Griffith (8.625 earned 17th on beam); freshmen Emma Burke (8.825 earned 18th on floor); and Mia Murdock (8.8 earned 20th on floor).
Sectional Qualifiers also in the line-up and competing for the Hilltoppers were sophomores Quinn Meyer (vault and bars) and Charlotte Girouard (bars).
The end of he Hilltoppers' 2018 campaign means a pending year-end banquet final send-off for four-year varsity letter winners and two-year captains Caroline Griffith and Grace Bauman, and an off-season focused on an off-season geared toward improving the gymnasts' individual routines and upgrading their degree of difficulty for the 2019 season.
