MONROE TWNSHP., NJ - The skies above may be leaden, but the future remains bright for the Summit Boys Cross Country Team, as evidenced by a pair of fantastic finishes by the Junior Varsity and Freshman squads at the 14th annual Freshmen/JV Championship at Thompson Park.
The Junior Varsity Squad captured the team title in the Division 2 race, defeating Montgomery for the title. Teddy Robertson (second), Riley Semler (third), and Ashton Flamme (eighth) all finished in the top 10 and gave Summit a huge advantage. Daniel Naiman (14th), James McDermott (17th), Joey Gingeleski (18th), and Andrew Semsel (30th) were the other members of the championship pack.
The Freshmen placed fourth overall in the team standings, and established a new freshmen five-runner school record average of 18:39 for the 5k course. Ahead of the Hilltoppers were CBA, North Hunterdon, and Princeton. The boys from the Top finished right in front of local rival, Westfield.
Jackson Levine finished fifth overall in the race, John Cho and Marek Muzyka were just out of the top ten in 13th and 16th respectively. James Bunting (45), Justin Anderson (80), Joaquin Gonzalez, and Rahul Shah (92nd) rounded out the seven members of the squad.
This group will be counted on to contribute to the success of the program going forward, with many having already shown significant improvement over the past year due directly to their tremendous commitment and daily effort.
