Second-Half Dooms Summit in Loss to Vikings
The Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team was riding a three-game winning streak when they took the court in Scotch Plains to face Union Catholic and, at the half, the Hilltoppers were more than in the hunt, leading 22-19. The Maroon and White was, however, outscored 26-11 over the final two quarters and fell to the Vikings, 45-33.
The loss puts Summit's season record at 9-7.
Sophomore Olivia Lawlor and junior captain Annabella Yorio both flirted with Double-Doubles -- Lawlor went for 15 points and 9 rebounds while Yorio went for 10 and 7 -- and sophomore Jessica Penner had a nice game, adding 7 points and five 'boards, but only one other 'Topper scored.
Union Catholic's Madison Johnson led all scorers with 23 points and Abigale Ortiz contributed 11.
The Hiltopper now travel to Mt. Saint Dominic February 3 to take on the Lions. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
