LONG HILL, NJ - The Summit 10U Maroon Softball Team has been crowned Summer 2020 District 2 Champions after topping South Plainfield by a score of 2-0 in the semifinals and then defeating Long Hill by a score of 3-0 in the finals. A combination of dominant pitching, timely hitting, and very solid defensive play in the field all contributed to the team's successful title quest.

In the semis, Kate Shin pitched five scoreless innings, striking out eight. Rylen Conroy got the team on the board with an RBI single in the second, and Nirah Bull had a huge two-out hit in the fourth, subsequently scoring on an RBI double by Amanda Semsel. Charlotte Yarnall closed the game by striking out three in the sixth, sending the team to the finals.

Yarnall started in the circle in the Championship game, giving up a bloop single to the first batter she faced. That was the only hit she would allow all night, pitching a complete game shutout while striking out 16. Summit got on the board early with a run in the first, Semsel scoring on an RBI single by Yarnall. In the top of the 3rd, Sarah Barber caught a hard line drive at 2B that prevented Long Hill from getting anything started. The game remained 1-0 until the fourth when Summit plated two more runs on RBI singles by Shin and Bella Shreckengost.
