UNION, NJ - Senior captain Eric Baier scored a game-high 20 points, and senior Charles Lord knocked down three big second-half treys as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team opened its 2019-20 campaign with a 50-45 victory over Westfield at Union High School.

Senior captain Will Hellings had eight points, five 'boards and four steals, and classmate and fellow captain Jackson Rind added six points and six rebounds.

Griffin Rooney and Jack Spellman had 15 and 14 points, respectively, to pace Westfield.

The taught contest saw the Hilltoppers lead by a point after the opening quarter and at the half, by four after three, and edge a defensive-minded final frame 10-9 to earn the 'W'.

Next up for Summit (1-0) is a trip to West Essex December 23. Tip-off for the game -- which was originally scheduled for December 21 -- is 11 a.m.
