SUMMIT, NJ - Senior Charles Lord splashed four rainbows from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 14 points as the third-seeded Summit H.S. Boys Varsity Basketball Team opened its NJSIAA tournament sojourn with 62-40 victory over 14th-seeded Cranford at the Main Gym. The victory improves Summit's season mark to 24-3 and sends the Maroon and White into the quarterfinals against 11th-seeded Payne Tech, an upset winner over sixth-seeded Rahway.

In addition to Lord's long-distance marksmanship, the Hiltoppers had three others in double figures, with senior captains Eric Baier (13 points and 10 rebounds) and Will Hellings (11 and 11) netting Double-Doubles, and classmate and fellow captain Joe Lusardi contributing 13 points and six 'boards.

Despite the final margin, the game was tight battle early on with Summit holding just 16-15 and 30-26 leads at the end of the first quarter and at the halftime break, respectively.

The home team took control in the third quarter, a frame in which they held the Cougars to just four points and extended their lead to 13 at 43-30. Another nine-point win in the final quarter gave The 'Top a comfortable finish and a higher-seeded, but upset-minded, opponent to face next.

Summit versus Payne Tech is slated for March 4 at the Main Gym, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
