It was a successful night for Summit Basketball as the Boys Varsity made it a season sweep over neighboring New Providence with a 53-47 win at the Main Gym and the girls traveled to Cranford and won 46-30.

Senior captain Eric Baier scored a game-high 18 points and classmate Charles Lord drained a quad of triples and scored 14 to lead the Maroon and White, which won its eighth game in a row and improved to 11-2 on the season. Senior captains Will Hellings (7) and Jackson Rind (6) along with fellow senior Jalen Russell (7) combined for 20 more points, with Rind also snaring a team-high seven rebounds.

Owen Kovacs had 14 and Carsten Schumm's 13-point, 12 rebound Double-Double led the Pioneers.

Summit now heads into 'River Road Rivalry' territory, traveling to face Chatham January 25. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Yorio's Big Game, Fourth-Quarter Shutout Highlight Girls Victory at Cranford

Junior captain Annabella Yorio scored a game-high 23 points and classmate Sarah Maldonado added 10 points and seven rebounds as Summit won its second game in a row, beating Cranford 46-30. The Hilltoppers are now 8-6 on the season.

Up 40-30 heading to the fourth quarter, Summit did not allow a point over the final eight minutes. In addition to their strong defensive finish, The 'Top also started fast on the offensive side of the rock, jumping out to a 15-6 lead after the opening stanza.

Elizabeth McCaffery had nine poit to pace the Cougars, who also got seven points from Kirsten Williams.

Next up for Summit is a January 25 trip to Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Game time is 1 p.m.
