SUMMIT, NJ - For anyone who was wondering if there would be an emotional (you-know-what)over after their historic Union County Tournament outcome on October 24, the fourth-seeded Summit High School Boys Varsity Soccer went out and proceeded to hang eight, count 'em eight, goals on 13th-seeded Cranford to open the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 at Tatlock Park.
The 8-1 conquest of the Cougars was fueled by Hilltopper tallies from freshman Dan Farberov (2), senior captains Jose Osorio and Luke Rustum, seniors Michael Bermudez, Nathan Todorov, and Aidan Grazia, along with sophomore David Argenal. Senior Chris Merola and sophomore Ethan Harris each had a pair of assists as the boys from the 07901 fired 21 shots on goal -- 15 on target.
Seniors Jake Maslin and Austin Dooley split time between the posts and combined to make nine saves for Summit, which improved to 12-4-4 on the season under first-year coach Ben Stuart.
The Hilltoppers led 4-0 at the half and tacked on four more goals in the final 40 minutes to win going away.
The Maroon and White now advances to face 12th-seeded Woodbridge November 1 at Tatlock Park. The match's start time is yet to be announced, although it is likely to begin at 2:30 p.m.
