SUMMIT, NJ - A 15-0 run, a first-quarter whitewash of their opponent, and a 17-2 first-half lead added up to the Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team winning their seventh game of the season, a cozy 38-15 victory over Scotch Plains-Fanwood at the Main Gym.

Hilltopper freshman Olivia Lawlor dropped a 15-point, 11-rebound performance on the Raiders and sophomore Annabella Yorio had 10 points and four 'boards as Summit improved to 7-3. The tilt was a lower-output replay of the December 22 matchup between the teams at Scotch Plains, a game the girls from the 07901 won by 41 points.

The Maroon and White led 8-0 after one quarter and by 15 at the half and, while the third and fourth quarter were much more evenly contested, they ultimately amounted to a pair of victory laps for The 'Top.

Boys Now 8-1 After Win at SP-F

Scoring half of their points from that 'happy place' known as Three Point Land, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team traveled to Scotch Plains-Fanwood and came away with a tough 48-43 victory.

Senior captain Malcolm Sidebottom had four of the team's eight treys and a joint game-high 16 points to lead Summit, with junior Eric Baier adding 11 and senior captain Finbar McCormick splashing twice from beyond the arc as part of his seven-point night.

Belying the relatively low-scoring form that followed it, the first quarter saw the teams combine for 35 points, with SP-F taking a slim 18-17 lead after the opening eight minutes. Summit dialed up the 'D' and held the home team to just five in the second stanza to take a 27-23 lead to the locker room at the break.

The teams played the final 16 minutes of hoops virtually even-up, with SP-F edging the third quarter by a point and Summit shading the fourth by a bucket.

The Hilltoppers, 8-1 on the season, now travel up Route 24 to face Delbarton January 12. The ball goes in the air at 2 p.m.
