SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Less than 24 hours after their defense held Union City to just over half the number of points the Soaring Eagles had been averaging, the Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team maintained their healthy level of stinginess, holding Scotch Plains-Fanwood to just 10 second-half points in a 33-26 Hilltopper road victory.

The win, Summit's third in-a-row and seventh in its past eight games, runs the Maroon and White's 2021 record to 10-2.

Olivia Lawlor produced a 14-point, 13-rebound Double-Double to lead The 'Top. The junior also contributed four blocks and five steals. Senior captains Sarah Maldonado and Annabella Yorio had six and five points, respectively, and Yorio snared nine 'boards along with four assists and three steals.

Emily Friscia and Ashley Defrancesco led the Raiders (12-3) with seven points each.

With the contests tied 16-16 at the half, Summit edged a grinding third quarter 5-2 and then flipped the game's defensive-minded script and took the final frame 12-6 to win by a buffer that belied the narrow margins that led to the outcome.

Next up for Summit is a March 4 contest at Westfield. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
