MONROE TWNSHP., NJ - Matching the success enjoyed by the boys program at the same venue, the Summit High School Girls Cross Country Freshman and JV teams traveled to Thompson Park and ran put forth a pair of excellent performances, with the Freshman winning the Championship and the JV taking eighth.
The 'Frosh' grabbed the crown in their final race of the season, marking the fourth consecutive meet where the Freshmen won the championship trophy.
Katelyn Marin paced the Hilltoppers with a second-place finish running an impressive 21:22 on the 5k course. She was followed closely behind by Nora Shields in third place with a time of 21:27. Maya Hybl (10th), Delaney Driscoll (13th) and Cate Meany (14th) rounded out the scoring Katie Seymour and Nicole McDermott also competed and were Summit's sixth and seventh runners' respectively.
Remarkably, the freshman team never finished below second place all season.
"It was another impressive day for the frosh girls," said Coach Dave Field. "I am very proud of how they competed today and I'm looking forward to seeing what these girls will do in the coming years."
The JV team placed eighth in their championship race with Gwyn Gallagher finishing in eighth spot overall. Gallagher was joined by Jessica Luo, Isabel Reyes, Sara Yoo and Kiana Yip, with all the girls figured into the scoring for Summit and each achieving personal bests.
