SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit High School Varsity Field Hockey Team is on an uptick, while the Boys Varsity Soccer Team's struggles continue, and Girls Soccer and Volleyball both delivered solid victories on a busy Hilltopper fall sports afternoon October 4.

Field Hockey Opens UCT Play with Shutout Victory

Ciara Lawlor, Jessica Natunen and Maisie Hiltabrand all scored goals in the first half, and the Summit Field Hockey Team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Governor Livingston in the first round of the Union County Tournament (UCT) on the Upper Turf Field. Caroline Sanyour had four saves in goal for the fifth-seeded Maroon and White, which won its second game in a row to improve to 4-8-1 on the season.

Marykate Davidson, Devon Degen and Hiltabrand all notched assists on the afternoon.

Summit next travels to fourth-seeded Cranford in the UCT quarterfinals on October 6. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Boys Soccer Beaten by Plainfield

Plainfield's Narvis Bent scored a second-half Hat Trick as the Cardinals avenged an earlier defeat to Summit by defeating the Hilltoppers 3-nil. The loss extends Summit's winless streak to five matches (0-4-1), a slate that has seen the Maroon and White outscored 11-0. Summit's last goal came September 21 when they topped Plainfield 3-1.

Summit goalkeepers Jonathan Chaves (7) and Joshua Jimenez (1) were credited with eight stops.

The Hilltoppers' season record now stands at 4-6-2, 1-6-1 in conference, heading into a first-round Union County Tournament tilt at Tatlock Park October 6 that will see fifth-seeded Summit battle the 20th seed, Roselle Catholic. The match is set to kick-off at 3 p.m.

Girls Soccer Wins on the Road

Keegan Mayer bagged a brace and Natasha Kim also found the back of the net as the Hiltoppers Girls Varsity Soccer Team claimed a road victory at Hillsborough, 3-1. Kelsey Space added and assist and Sophie Zachara made three saves.

Summit is now 4-7 on the their campaign heading into a October 6 match with Cranford on the Upper Turf Field. Match-time is slated for 4 p.m.

Volleyball Defeats Rahway

Lauren Trindell had three aces and 22 assists as the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team swept aside Rahway, 25-22, 25-17. Carmel Barsch (7), Georgia Inggs and Katie MacPherson combined for 19 kills as the Hilltoppers improved to 5-6 on the season.

Ava Williamson (6), Tess Pulgar (5), Sylvie Goudreau (4) and Barsch (4) totaled 19 digs between them for Summit, which saw its record rise to 5-6. The Hilltoppers are right back in action, again at the Main Gym, October 5 against Millburn. The action gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
