SUMMIT, NJ - In a season that, to date, has witnessed several meet results decided by mere tenths-of-a-point, the Summit High School Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team hit a season-high point total and easily defeated Montclair at The Connection, 106.375 - 98.
With three meets left before the Sectional championship in November, the 106.375 point total came courtesy of a total podium sweep, with the Hilltoppers taking every scoring spot in every rotation. Only in the All-Around -- won by the Maroon and White's Catherine Singow -- was Summit's dominance dented, with the Mounties' Amelia Tuchmann taking third.
The win ups the Hilltoppers' record to 3-4, with all four setbacks coming against opponents currently ranked in the state's top 10: Cranford, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Roxbury and Hunterdon Central.
Versus Montclair, junior co-captain Singow was masterful on bars and floor and also put up high marks on vault and beam to lead the All-Around with a 35.875. Senior co-Captain Sofia Confalonieri put up a season high All-Around score of 34.95 and a career-high vault score of 8.9.
Sophomore Emma Burke won beam with an 8.875 and was third on floor posting a 9.025. Junior Emma Claus had career-high bars score of 8.35 for third place, and notched am 8.85 mark on beam, good for second place.
Sophomore Mia Murdock nabbed second on floor with a 9.2, and junior Quinn Meyer was third on vault with an 8.7. Another big bright spot for Summit was the return of junior co-Captain Margaret Griffith, back in the lineup for the first time this year after a pre-season injury.
The Hilltoppers next face perennial Conference-title challenger Westfield October 14 at The Connection. The meet begins at 7 p.m.
