Several hundred folks from Summit and surrounding communities stood together on the Village Green -- ground that alternated between being partially frozen and marsh-like -- and braved subfreezing temperatures to show and voice their support for the pending vote by the U.S. House of Representatives on two articles of impeachment against President Trump.
Summit Police estimated the crowd at 225.
Organized by Summit-based grassroots organizations 'Summit Area Indivisible' and 'Summit Marches On', the 'Impeach and Remove' rally was part of a national effort encompassing citizens in 400+ cities and towns in all 50 States.
Speakers at the event included Marci Bendelli, Co-Founder of Westfield 2020; Diane Dresdale of Summit Area Indivisible; Anjali Mehrohta, President of NJ NOW; Rabbi Avi Friedman of Congregation Ohr Shalom; Karen Stringer, former Assistant US Attorney in the District of NJ; and City of Summit Common Council Member-elect Danny O'Sullivan. Statements from U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker and Congressman Tom Malinowski were read aloud.
