UNION, NJ – Union firefighters got in some needed training on a soon-to-be demolished building in Union.

As part of the Stanley Terrace substation project, PSE&G purchased a vacant building that will be demolished in May.  PSE&G offered it to the Union Township Fire Department to use before it was demolished.

“We were able to actually get up on the roof and make cuts,” said Union Fire Chief Mike Scanio.  “Usually we have to use a simulator to train on ventilation, but we were able to get up on this building and make cuts on a flat commercial building.  It doesn’t get more real than that.”

Scanio said firefighters also smoked up the building and stretched hoselines in a large building with limited visibility.  “We can’t thank PSE&G enough,” said Scanio.
