FLORHAM PARK, NJ - AAA's December survey of gasoline prices shows a three cents per gallon drop in the Garden State.
The current average price of a gallon of gasoline is $2.51, down from $2.54 a week ago. Today’s average price is eight cents cheaper than a month ago ($2.59), but 19 cents higher than this same date last year ($2.32). The current national average to be $2.46, down two cents from one week ago ($2.48) and 10 cents from one month ago ($2.56). This same time last year, the national average price for a gallon of gas was 25 cents cheaper at $2.21.
“Nationally, gas prices are 10 cents cheaper on the month and will continue to drop as we count down the days to the holidays,” said Cathleen Lewis, Director of Public Affairs & Government Relations for AAA Northeast. “AAA expects gasoline demand to weaken throughout the winter, which translates to better prices at the pump.”
