UNION, NJ – The cast of Union High School’s upcoming production of Peter Pan had a rare opportunity recently to spend some time with, and hear first-hand experiences about the entertainment industry from, actress Carmen Ejogo.
Ejogo has starred in such films as the Academy Award Nominated Selma and the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Students had a chance to perform for Ejogo, sharing with her monologues and songs they have been working this year.
During her time speaking with students, Ejogo stressed the importance of staying motivated and being confident. She shared stories of her experiences working in the television and film industry. Ejogo encouraged the students to stay motivated even through rejection.
“It’s a game of confidence and believing in yourself,” Ejogo said. “If you have a passion for anything, at some point your love for the arts and your other passions will converge, they will find each other.”
Union High School Performing Arts Company Choreographer Jennifer Williams said, “having someone of Carmen’s caliber come in to speak to our students is always an incredible opportunity. She was so giving with her stories, and had poignant things to share. I know my students learned some valuable lessons speaking with her. It was inspiring for myself to listen to her, and I know even though they were star struck, her messages definitely hit home.”
“I was ecstatic when I heard Carmen would be visiting our company,” said Union High School junior Abby Hagen. “I was so excited to hear her advice and experiences from working on different films. She watched me and a couple of other students perform songs and monologues and gave us encouraging feedback. Having the opportunity to talk to such an esteemed actress is something I will appreciate forever.”
Union High Schools production of Peter Pan will open March 16th. For more information visit their website, www.uhspac.com
