UNION, NJ – Students and staff at Battle Hill Elementary School enjoyed some outside time Friday afternoon to watch as a new tree was planted on school grounds in honor of Arbor Day.

ShopRite Supermarkets donated the Eastern Red Bud that was planted in the front of the school.  “We’re planting this tree today in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day” said Principal Mark Hoyt.  “I know Earth Day was last week, but every day is Earth Day.”

Amanda Fischer, Director of Business Relations at ShopRite said to the students, “when you’re in middle school or high school, or when you in your 30s or 40s, you can come back here and see this tree and you’ll always remember this day.  Trees can grow for a long, long time if you take care of them.”

Fourth graders Caroline, Sophia and Kelis wrote Earth Day poems and presented them to the assembled crowd.
