UNION, NJ - An investigation into the shooting on February 5 in the area of Walker and William Streets has led to a suspect being identified and apprehended. The suspect, Isaiah “Zay” Jackson, has addresses in both Newark and South Orange.
Officers on scene found an adult lying in the grass in the garden apartment complex. The wounded man, a 19-year old from Maplewood, was unconscious and bleeding from his torso and neck area and was taken to a trauma center.
According to a press release from the Union Police Department, detectives and members of the FBI Fugitive Task Force had been searching for Jackson since the shooting and located him at a relative’s home in South Orange on Tuesday, February 23. He was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Union Police Department where he was formally charged. He is charged with aggravated assault, weapons possession, and certain persons not to have a weapon. According to police, Jackson is a Grape Street Crips Gang member and associates with a Newark set. His bail was set at $500,000 by Union Municipal Court Judge Jonathan Rosenbluth. Jackson was sent to the Union County Jail.
