UNION, NJ - Battle Hill and Washington Elementary School teachers battled it out Friday night in front of 300 parents and children in a series of volleyball games to benefit the Heavenly Hats Foundation.
Over $2,200 was raised to benefit the Foundation. The Heavenly Hats Foundation collects and distributes brand new hats of all kinds to those heroes of all ages who lose their hair due to the treatment of cancer or the many other medical conditions which may cause hair loss. The Heavenly Hats Foundation was founded by teenager Anthony Leanna when he was only ten years old.
“The idea for the event came from Principal Hoyt from Battle Hill and Principal Matthews from Washington,” Washington School PTA President Amy Phillips.
“The PTAs from both schools donated all of the water and the pom-poms for the kids,” said Battle Hill PTA President Anita Laverty. Student councils sold Philly Pretzels and bottled water. Students were encouraged to wear their school colors and the first 200 attendees from each school received a pom-pom made of their school colors.
Washington School won all three games: 21 - 15, 21 – 16, and 21 – 18.
