UNION, NJ - Battle Hill School began the giving season by adopting an idea from Livingston Elementary School, called "Feather Wars."
Student council advisors, Alison Brehm and Jessica Mongiovi asked the Battle Hill students to make a minimum $1 donation. Each student who made a monetary donation was able to decorate a feather to be attached to their grade level turkey. Art teacher Sarah Norman created six large turkeys that have been displayed in the hallway, each one labeled with a grade level.
Battle Hill collected $400. “Students and staff alike were excited to decorate a feather and see it displayed in the front hallway of the school,” said Brehm. “As Thanksgiving approached, these colorful turkeys brightened up the hallway and reminded the students about the importance of giving to those less fortunate.”
The money collected was donated to the YWCA in Elizabeth. The YWCA is dedicated to empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Each student received a Philly pretzel, compliments of the Battle Hill Student Council.
