UNION, NJ – Union’s Special Improvement District hosted its first ‘Winterfest’ in Union Center on Saturday. With unusually warm weather, hundreds turned out to partake in the holiday-themed festivities.
One popular activity was the horse and buggy ride around the center. There was a special appearance by Santa Claus at ‘Here’s The Story’ bookstore and residents got a chance to visit with some of the characters of Disney’s “Frozen” who stopped in to spread holiday cheer at various locations throughout the day.
The kids also enjoyed decorating Gingerbread houses at the Blue Ribbon Bakery, face-painting at Killer Vegan Restaurant and Express Latin Grill, balloon-making at ConnectOne Bank and at the Gym for Kids. There were free karate lessons at Union’s United Taekwondo Academy and DIY ornament crafts at Kava Restaurant and Lounge and Bon Chon.
“Our local businesses have been incredibly generous with their time, space, and products this year,” said Janice de Avila, Executive Director of the Union Special Improvement District. “There is no better place for community and togetherness this holiday season than Union Center.” Committeeman Anthony Terrezza added, “what a great event. It brings out the family and that’s what Union is all about.”
