Biochemistry Literacy For Kids

UNION, NJ - Join Professor Daniel Fried of Kean University’s Chemistry and Biology Departments for an after school science enrichment course orienting students to the chemistry of life. 

Using cutting edge teaching methods, interactive computer simulations, molecular models, and drawing exercises, students will learn how to build and recognize biomolecules and learn their connections to biology, health, and everyday life.

What makes a rose red? How does vision work? What makes a flavor? What is plastic? What are sugars and proteins? What is soap, and how does it clean?

No special science background required! Parents are also welcome to participate in the classes.

*This course is great for students who want to learn more in-depth science than may be taught in school, and for kids interested in the sciences or medical fields.

The class will be held at Kean University. 

Weekly meeting days and times will be set to accommodate as many interested students as possible. 

All are welcome to attend an informal sample class tentatively scheduled for the week of February 1st.

Power Outage in Union Friday Morning

UNION, NJ  -Around 9:00 Friday morning parts of Union lost power according to a CodeRed message sent out by the Township.

The CodeRed said that PSEG announced the power outage was caused by a switching station malfunction at the Cranford substation.

As of 10:00 a.m., PSEG is hoping to have power restored before noon.

Dog Found in Roselle Still Being Held at Newark Shelter

ROSELLE, NJ - A dog that was found on January 9, is still being held at the Newark Animal Shelter because no owner has claimed him. 

Roselle Police said the dog was found in the area of the Roselle side of Warinanco Park. The dog has a distinct blue eye and brown eye. Police also said the animal was checked and had no chip or tags.
