UNION, NJ – A new Board of Education President and Vice President were elected, both by margins of five-to-four, at the Board’s reorganization meeting Tuesday night.
The first order of business was the swearing in of new Board of Education members Linda Richardson and Sherry Higgins, along with returning Board member Vito Nufrio.
Both Nufrio and Board member David Arminio were nominated for the position of Board President. Nufrio won the seat by a vote of five to four. Voting for Nufrio were Richardson, Higgins, Nancy Minneci, Mary Lynn Williams, and Nufrio himself. Arminio voted for himself, as did Jeff Monge, Nellis Regis-Darby, and Guy Francis.
During the November election, Nufrio ran on a different slate, against Richardson and Higgins.
Nufrio nominated Minneci for Vice President and Board member Francis nominated Regis-Darby for the spot. Minneci won the Vice President seat, with the same members voting in the five-to-four combination.
“We have a fine Board of Education,” said Nufrio. “All members are dedicated. Residents, be certain that each of us carries an independent voice.”
