UNION COUNTY, NJ - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County will be celebrating the achievements of our members at the 2017 Youth of the Year Awards Dinner on Thursday, March 30.

The annual awards dinner will be held at Galloping Hills Caterers, 325 Chestnut Street, Union.  The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner, followed by the award ceremony and the announcement of the 2017 Youth of the Year winner. This is a special night for members because it recognizes them and all they have accomplished and have overcome throughout the year.

“It is a thrill to recognize our members and all of their hard work throughout the year,” said Russel Triolo, Chief Executive Officer. “Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year Leadership program celebrates and recognizes the nation’s most deserving members ages 6-18 in academic success and the services they provided to other communities and people in need. The Youth of the Year title honors outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles they overcome. The winner will next compete against other Boys & Girls Club members across New Jersey for the state title and a partial college scholarship. The State Youth of the Year will then vie for the distinction of becoming one of five regional representatives across the country, and ultimately contend for the title of National Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Candidates must be between the ages of 14-18 and exemplify outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and service to Club and community. The candidates must be involved in a curriculum-based activity, such as Keystone Club, SMART Moves, Career Launch, Money Matters or Goals for Graduation. This year’s nominees are: Monisola Omole (Union Club), Jalynn White (Union Club), Anandah Gomez (Plainfield Club), and Najiyyah Dunn (Elizabeth Club). In addition to the local Youth of the Year title, Club members ages 6-13 will be recognized in (3) three other award categories; Buddie of the Year, Junior of the Year and Spirit of the Year. All awardees will receive plaques and certificates for their outstanding accomplishments presented by the Board of Directors.
