UNION, NJ – Twenty road racers participated in Union’s annual 4th of July All-American Soap Box Derby on Tuesday morning on Stuyvesant Avenue, concluding with two brothers going head-to-head for the championship.
“This year marks the 10th year for our township’s Soap Box Derby,” said Township of Union Mayor Suzette Cavadas. “I am excited that we have kept a long standing tradition alive here in town, which allows our children and families to participate in a fun, family event.”
Two hours of derby fun saw a couple of crashes (no one was injured). In the end, brothers and Livingston School students Logan Jimenez, 9, and Corbin Jimenez, 8, faced off in the final run for the championship, with Logan coming out ahead to win this years derby.
”It’s always a great time here at the Soap Box Derby.” said Committeeman Clifton People, Jr. “It’s just a fun watching the kids come down the hill, having a great time.”
