UNION, NJ – A new playground is in the works for the Burkley Place Tot Lot located on Burkley Place in the Vauxhall section of Union.
The Department of Recreation is continuing to review playgrounds around Union and actively working on a plan to upgrade and maintain playgrounds and tot lots according to DJ Salvante, Superintendent of Recreation.
“We identified the Burkley Place Tot Lot as a site that was in need of an overhaul,” said Salvante. In addition to necessary general upgrades, rust and corrosion had eaten through some of the platforms creating an unsafe play area.
According to Salvante, the Department of Public Works has moved swiftly to remove the unit and prepare the site for the new play space.
“In an initiative that we’ve dubbed “Play Spaces – Safe Spaces!”, we are reaffirming the Township’s commitment to safe recreation by removing the unit and upgrading to a more updated and safer structure,” said Salvante. “Our goal is to create an atmosphere of safe recreation of which Township of Union residents can be proud.”
Salvante said the new playground at Burkley Place is expected to be in place by late Fall.
