UNION, NJ – A Burnet Middle School teacher was struck by a car Thursday afternoon outside the school at the intersection of Morris and Caldwell Avenues.

According to police officials, at just after 2:00 p.m., Michael Hamilton, 46, was struck by a vehicle heading northbound on Caldwell Avenue, as the vehicle attempted to turn left onto Morris Avenue.

Hamilton was transported to University Hospital with a severe laceration to his head.  Evaluation by first responders on the scene also reported that Hamilton appeared to have a concussion.  According to police officials, he is currently being treated and evaluated by hospital emergency room personnel.

Police report that Morris Avenue is closed eastbound and westbound at Caldwell Avenue.   Caldwell Ave. is closed at Morris Ave., Vauxhall Rd., Elmwood, Berwyn, and Morris Ave. westbound at Pine Ave. is also closed.
