UNION, NJ – Connecticut Farms Elementary School teachers got into the holiday and giving spirit this week with a gingerbread house contest, benefiting Relay for Life.
Teachers from each grade level got together to design and create the gingerbread houses. The houses were on display in the lobby for students and families to vote for their favorite. Each vote cost $1, which was donated to the Relay for Life program.
An announcement was made Friday morning announcing the winner. The gingerbread house titled “Up”, which depicted a scene from the movie “Up” won with 81 votes. The "Up" house was designed and created by third grade teachers. Second place went to the Connecticut Farms School gingerbread house with classrooms, by special area teachers (art, Spanish, music, computers and gym), with 79 votes.
The event raised $326 according to Principal Michelle C. Osborne-Warren. “This was a great event,” said Osborne-Warren. “The teachers really pulled together in a short period of time and did a fantastic job.”
