HOLMDEL, NJ --Union Catholic's strong frontal attack was too much for any team to handle as the girls rolled to a team title, and Myles Plummer continued his strong season at Saturday's prestigious Shore Coaches Cross-Country Invitational at Holmdel Park.
Senior Leena Morant (20:06), sophomore Abby Granrath (a course personal best of 20:21) and freshman Kathryn Power (20:36) finished 3-4-5 to spearhead the dominating performance for UC, which ran away with the girls E Division championship, 37-103 over runner-up Robbinsville. Union Catholic, which averaged 20:47 and had a 1-5 split of 1:23, put its entire scoring five in the top 15. UC freshman Elsa Spoor was 14th in 21:25 and junior Morgan Williams ran 21:29 to place 15th.
In the boys F Division race, Plummer, a sophomore at UC, finished fourth in 16:51, his personal best time on the 3.1-mile championship layout. Led by Plummer, whose previous best at Holmdel was 17:03 at the Shore Coaches meet last year, the Vikings finished third in the team standings with 109 points, just three points behind runner-up Delbarton. Haddon Township placed first with 66.
The four other scorers for the UC boys were junior Matt Granizo, 14th in 17:22, senior Zach Turner, 20th in 17:39, junior Sam Hernardez, 37th in 18:06, and sophomore Noah Handlin, 44th in 18:19.
