UNION, NJ – A customer entered a pharmacy on Stuyvesant Avenue on Tuesday afternoon only to witness an armed robbery in progress.

Union police said that upon entering the Care Plus Pharmacy at 1024 Stuyvesant Avenue at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, the customer observed a robbery suspect struggling with an employee.  The customer screamed and ran out of the store.  Her scream startled the suspect and the employee was able to run out of the front door.  According to police, the suspect then ran out of the store via the back door, into a waiting car.

According to police, the Care Plus employee said the suspect had a silver handgun and fought with her for several minutes, attempting to place tape over her mouth The employee suffered minor injuries.  The suspect carried a bag with the number 77 and the Central Ward Titans logo, a Pop Warner football team from Newark.  The suspect was dressed in US Postal Service pants and shirt.

The car was described as a white Chevrolet Lumina.  Police say no license plates were observed.  The robbery was foiled before the suspect could obtain money or pharmaceutical products.
