ROSELLE, NJ – Monday was more than just the beginning of a new season for Dayton Hockey, it was the first varsity game a season off.  This team made is up of students from Jonathan Dayton High School, David Brearley High School and Union High School.  The game against the Edison Eagles at Warinaco Rink ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Eagles struck first in the opening period only to have the Bulldogs tie the game before the first period ended.  Dayton scored the lone goal in the second period and the Eagles scored the last and tying goal in the third period.

Scoring goals for the Bulldogs were junior Daniel Dorokhin and sophomore Victor Velazquez.  Sophomore Joe Triano got the lone assist.

The Bulldogs goalie was sophomore more Nick Facchini and he stopped 26 of 28 shots on goal.

Edison’s goaltender, Patrick McKenna, turned back 18 of the 20 shots he faced.  The Eagles scoring goals were John DeVito and Christian Osma.  Andrew Hrehowsik had the only assist.

The Bulldogs next game is against division rival West Orange on Friday December 8 at 9:10 p.m. 

The Bulldogs are in the McMullen Division of the NJIIHL Essex/Union Conference.  The other teams in the division are Newark East Side, Frisch, Oratory Prep and West Orange.

There are 19 players on the team including five seniors, two juniors, six sophomores and six freshmen.

Rec on Wheels Cancelled for Tuesday Due to Heavy Rains

UNION, NJ - Due to inclement weather, the Rec on Wheels event scheduled for Tuesday at Joe Collins Park is canceled.

Union Rec to Host Instructional Co-Ed Basketball Clinic

UNION, NJ - The Union Recreation Department will host an instructional, co-ed basketball clinic Wednesday, Aug. 15 and Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Davis Park, 940 Arcadia Place.

The clinic, featuring fun drills and games, will run from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for participants in third- through fifth-grade and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.
