UNION, NJ – An active investigation continues into a fatal shooting early Sunday morning at a residence on Melrose Parkway.
The incident is believed to be the result of a domestic incident, said a township official. The official said the suspect is well known to the Union Police Department for car theft and burglary.
According to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim is identified as 19-year-old Malikah Taylor. Union police officers responded to a residence on the 2100 block of Melrose Parkway early Sunday morning and found Taylor unresponsive, “having sustained serious injury”, read the Prosecutor’s press release. She was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 8 a.m. Melrose Parkway is located between Stanley Terrace and the Union/Irvington border.
The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Union Police Department, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
