UNION, NJ – It was a [friendly] battle among Union’s elementary school staff members last week when staff members, students, and parents came together for a volleyball tournament to raise money for the Valerie Fund.

Staff from Battle Hill, Connecticut Farms, Hannah Caldwell and Washington Elementary Schools met in the Union High School gymnasium for the fun-filled evening that raised $3,469.

The Valerie Fund, named in honor of Valerie Goldstein, a cancer patient who lost her life at the age of 9, helps to provide individualized care to children at medical centers close to home. Their aim is to help heal and comfort the children in their care by treating them emotionally, socially and developmentally, as well as medically.

Although Battle Hill Elementary School took home the prized trophy, the true winners were all of the students, parents, faculty and staff of all four schools who came together to support The Valerie Fund.
