KENILWORTH, N.J -- Kate LaBarge, Kaleigh Gunsiorowski, and Christina Layden scored to ignite the Union Catholic girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Brearley on Monday night.
UC took a 2-0 lead in the first half when Gunsiorowski, a sophomore, scored off a penalty kick, and LaBarge, a freshman, scored her second goal of the season. Gunsiorowski has now scored five goals this season on penalty kicks.
In the second half, Layden, a senior, raised her season total to 16 goals when she scored in the second half when the Vikings took a 3-0 lead.
Junior goalie Nadine Rouba made five saves for Union Catholic.
The Vikings, who improved to 8-2-2 on the season, will be back in action on Friday when they travel to play J.P. Stevens in Edison.
