SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. --  In a battle between state volleyball powerhouses, Union Catholic, ranked No. 5 in the state, reeled off five of the last six points to rally to win the second set to secure a thrilling victory over No. 11 ranked West Morris on Thursday night at Union Catholic.

After UC won the first set, 25-21, West Morris, the defending State Group 3 champions, went on a big run late in the second set to take a 24-22 lead. But the Vikings stormed back to win the set, 27-25, to earn the hard-fought victory and improve to 3-0. West Morris is now 3-1. 

The University of Cincinnati-bound Alexandra Kwasnik, who had a sensational all-round match for UC, broke a 25-25 tie with one of her 12 kills. Kwasnik also finished with eight digs, six blocks, and six service points.

Olivia Szyszkiewicz, who will continue her career at the University of Jacksonville next year, also had a huge match for UC with seven kills, 12 digs, and seven service points. Abbey Ortiz was sensational for the Vikings with eight digs, 12 assists, and 13 service points, and Najlaa Willliams finished with 15 digs for the Vikings.
