UNION, NJ - A groundbreaking for a new mixed-use development project at the old Union Center National Bank site in the heart of Union Center took place Wednesday afternoon.
Plans for Titan Union, a mixed used development project, consist of a three-story addition above the existing renovated office and retail space, 43 residential units, a co-working/office space and a community/event center.
“As many of you know, this building has been a historic landmark in the Township of Union since 1931,” said Union Mayor Michele Delisfort. “However, the expansion and tremendous improvements for patrons to the Center are something we are looking forward to.”
The development will become headquarters for project designers Titan Engineers PC, whose offices are currently located on Stuyvesant Avenue. A resident of Union for 13 years, Nicholas Wong, Managing Principal and President of Titan Engineers PC, said the company has also been in Union for 13 years. “And we absolutely love this town,” he said.
Wong said Titan Engineers is the largest structural engineering firm in New Jersey. “We pride ourselves in our duty to protect public safety, the quality of our work and to each other. Titan Engineers is committed to the community,” said Wong.
Wong said Titan will be partnering with Kean University’s Michael Graves College, Architecture and Design, to design some of the interior of the building. “We’re very excited to collaborate with Kean University to have practical, real-world projects for the students.”
“This is going to be a place where we can live, work and create,” said Wong. “A place to innovate, a place to inspire, a place to serve and bolster our community.” But most importantly, said Wong, “it represents the history of this bank and how we hold traditional values and bring those traditional values to modern commerce.”
Titan Union is set to open its doors Spring of 2020.
