ROSELLE, NJ – The Bulldogs faced Newark East Side in an early evening game at Warinanco Ice Rink. After facing over 60 shots the previous game, the Bulldog’s defense tightened things up and cut the number by more than half.
Still, Newark East Side out shot the Bulldogs 24 to eleven and came away with the 2-1 win.
Newark opened the scoring with a goal in the first period and held the 1-0 lead through the second period. In the third period the Bulldogs tied the game with just under six minutes left in the period only to have Newark respond with the winning goal 19 seconds later.
Victor Velazquez scored the Bulldog’s goal on an assist from Gary Mignone.
The Bulldog’s goalie stopped 22 of 24 shots, or more than 91% of the shots he faced.
The loss pushed the Bulldogs record to 1-3-1 and 0-2 in their division
Newark East Side goals were scored by Luis Martinez on assist by David Dos Santos and Gabe Dos Santos. Gabe Dos Santos scored the difference maker in the third period.
Newark’s goalie Matt Villacis stopped ten of eleven shots on goal.
The Bulldog’s next game is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against Lacey Township High School at Winding River Ice Rink.
