My name is Samuel M. Wright, Jr., and I am a pastor, teacher, preacher, praise leader, musician, and motivational speaker. I’ve been married to my ministry partner, Patricia F. Wright, since 2004. We have five children: Phillip, Stephen, Jessica, Fernon, and Jennifer. We also have five grandchildren: Aniya, Cayla, Lucas, Golden, Devyn, and Myles.
In October 2000, I was called to serve as Pastor of Union Chapel Church and have been Pastor ever since. During my service, I have worked to establish several ministries serving men, women, young adults, children, and couples. I also wrote and published “Shoes for the Shoemaker,” a book served to help members of the Clergy, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, public officials, and other servant leaders.
I received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Theology from Philadelphia Biblical University. I also have a Doctorate in Theology from North Carolina College of Theology. I was ordained to the diaconate ministry in 1980. I was licensed to preach in 1991 and ordained for pulpit ministry in 1995.
I am a member of The American Association of Christian Counselors, Black African American Counselors, The United Clergy of Vauxhall and Vicinity, and District Union #1 Central Jersey Pastoral Alliance and Church Fellowship. I also serve as Chairman of the Township of Union Human Relations Commission, which is dedicated to highlighting Union’s diversity and ensuring that the community is safe, comfortable, and peaceful for all. As Chairman, I organized “Meet, Mingle and Connect” events to promote civic engagement, as well as numerous community and interfaith solidarity events.
Like many residents, I am concerned over the budget crisis resulting in layoffs, cuts to programs and services, and raises to top administrators. Additionally, I became concerned over the obstructionism and divisiveness on the Board of Education that hurt the children and the community. I want to change that culture. Leveraging my experience on the Human Relations Commission, I also want to ensure our schools are safe, comfortable, and peaceful for every child.
On November 6, vote Column 4 for the “Save Our Schools” team: Reverend Dr. Samuel M. Wright, Jr. (4-1), Michelle Schulz (4-2), and Steven Le (4-3).
