UNION, NJ - Jefferson School held their annual Leadership Day on Friday, showcasing student leadership skills in music, technology, computers and media, among other topics.

“Leadership Day is held so that students can show everyone what they worked on all year,” said Jefferson School Principal Laura Damato.  “It’s really based on the seven habits of highly effective people, being proactive, synergizing.”

Damato explained the philosophy of the program -- that all students are leaders in something.  “If they are having a bad day, you can stop them in the hall and ask, “tell me what you’re a leader in,” said Damato.  “They light up right away.  They take ownership.  They are proud of their school and their hard work.”

“These young people are courteous, respectful and very knowledgeable,” Mayor Figueiredo. “Our youth in town are doing wonderful work, becoming great adults with this kind of leadership,” said Mayor Figueiredo.
