On June 3rd, Union Township will be hosting its second annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life event . Union residents, along with family and friends, are invited to take part in this event to raise funds and awareness of cancer. Held on the Union High School track, the event will start at 11am and will begin with a Survivors’ lap. During the day, each school in the district will have a designated time to walk the track and be honored for its fundraising efforts. The event will conclude at 11pm after a luminaria display to remember those who we have lost and to celebrate those who continue to fight.
Relay for Life is a fun-filled fundraiser in which members of each team take turns walking around the track. Teams raise funds to help the American Cancer Society and its efforts to support individuals who are currently battling the disease, to raise awareness of disease prevention, and to fund cancer research that will benefit future generations. Last year in its first Relay for Life event, Union Township raised $50,000 through the generosity of its residents, businesses, and local organizations.
This year’s Relay for Life theme is “Sending Cancer to Neverland.” During the event itself, teams are welcome to dress in Disney themed costumes and clothing, set up a tent beyond the track, and grab a bite to eat at participating food trucks. In addition, there will be Field Day activities for township students and child guests to take part in.
Union Township residents, as well as family and friends, are invited to take an active role through participation and donation.
