If you’ve taken a drive down Morris Avenue lately, I’m sure you’ve seen the action at the former Merck site. The Township Committee and I are proud to announce that construction has finally begun for phase one of what is set to be one of the largest mixed-use developments in northern New Jersey.
Phase one of the new Vermella Union will consist of 462 multi-family apartments, nearly 40,000 square feet of retail space, and amenities such as a club house.
The new development sits on a premier location, adjacent to both Kean University and the Union Train Station, and in close proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport which will allow residents to have quick access to New York City, Newark and other major urban locations and business markets.
Redevelopments like Vermella are just one area of progress for us. The past few years have been busy as we have put Union’s growth, economic development and structural improvement at the top of our list of priorities.
Along these lines, we are also excited for you to follow along with us as we service 84 roads this season. Servicing is expected to be completed by the end of this paving season. Roads that are being worked upon include Berkshire Drive, Bushnell Street, Harmony Road, Oakland Avenue, Union Terrace, Summit Place, Springfield Road, Laurel Avenue and Maple Avenue.
We truly work hard to make the Township of Union better for everyone that lives, works or plays here, and we can wait till the completion of these projects to ensure that we to continue to be one of the most sought-after places to live.
