UNION, NJ – Morris Avenue, from Colonial Avenue to Greenwood Road North/Sayre Road South, is closed. Detours are in place.
PSE&G and Verizon workers are at the site replacing two utility poles. The poles were damaged last evening, just after 7:00 p.m., by a vehicle that struck the poles and shut down Morris Avenue.
According to a township official, the driver of the car, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital and released. He is now in police custody awaiting charges. The vehicle he was driving was stolen.
According to a PSE&G worker, it is anticipated the road will continue to be closed "a couple of more hours", at least until 12:30 p.m.
