ELIZABETH, NJ – Cancer survivors, family and friends celebrated “Survivors Day” a special day at Trinitas Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, June 8. The event, held every June in the hospitals Comprehensive Cancer Center located at 225 Williamson Street in Elizabeth boasts good food, prizes, friendship and camaraderie between staff and those that have battled cancer or blood related ailments.

“They give us the stamina to go forward,” said Carol Blecher R.N., Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant at the cancer center who spoke about the importance of Survivor’s Day to patients and their families.

Dr. Clarissa Henson shared smiles and chatted with patients treated in the past as well as current patients who have made their way through Radiation treatments in the Department she chairs. Radiation treatments for common cancers such as breast, prostate and lung often require 25 to 35 days of treatment, so the patients become well known to the staff and physicians at the cancer center. Patients were greeted by concierge Jose Vega and treated to a light meal and refreshments in the Radiation Oncology waiting room before proceeding to the 1st floor Medical Oncology reception area for additional refreshments and socializing with staff.
