UNION, NJ – Business and building owners in Union’s Special Improvement District (SID) were reminded this week about a recent amendment to Ordinance No 5412 A (1) when filling vacancies or renewing leases.

The amendment to the ordinance states that “no nail salon, hair salon, beauty salon, barbershop, or beauty bar shall be located within 1,000 feet of any existing nail salon, hair salon, beauty salon, barbershop, or beauty bar as defined in the ordinance.”  The ordinance was passed by the Township Committee in March.

According to a letter to business owners from Fatimah Raymond, Union’s Director of Economic Development and SID Director, starting Tuesday, August 1, the SID and Township Building Department will be working together to ensure that SID property owners are acutely aware of and complying with the amendment.

The letter goes on to state, “the Special Improvement District (SID) was created to promote, enhance, expand, retain and to attract long-term investment opportunities that are vital for economic growth and to ensure ongoing success for its’ businesses; while maintaining the quality of life for its residents in the Township of Union.”
