CLARK, NJ – One man is in custody and police are searching for two more after a late afternoon accident at the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Broadway.
"Police have told residents to stay away or indoors but there is no belief the suspects are armed in any way," Clark Chief of Police Pedro Matos said.
The accident involved a stolen car, according to Matos. A red Nissan Murano, its airbags deployed, was being search by Union County Police.
“As soon as I heard the crash I looked outside and could see red lights,” Broadway resident Patrick Yurga said. “I saw four kids get out of the car and run between the houses.”
The Murano collided with a truck towing a construction trailer, which lay on its side blocking Lincoln Boulevard.
The Union County K-9 unit was called in to help with the search, Capt. Patrick Grady of the Clark Police Department said.
"We've set up a perimeter and we're doing a meticulous search," he said.
Broadway was closed to through traffic.
Matos said minor injuries were reported.
