UNION, N.J. -- The Union Catholic softball team scored three runs in the fifth inning to snap a tie on the way to an 8-4 victory over Union on Wednesday.

The victory by the Vikings avenged a 4-3 opening day loss to Union and improved to 5-6 on the season. 

After Union scored four runs in the third inning to tie the game, UC retook the lead for good in the fifth inning when Kaitlyn Dohn and Gianna Peralta each singled in a run, and Isabella Fuentes scored on an error.

Peralta, Dohn, and Justina Benvenuto each had two hits for UC, and Angelia Del Negro knocked in two runs, and Megan Sloane had an RBI for the Vikings. 

Benvenuto earned the victory on the mound for the Vikings. She pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, and struck out six. 

The Vikings will seek its third straight victory on Thursday at home vs. Johnson at 11 a.m.
