Plainfield - Widely acclaimed and enthusiastically received at home and abroad, The Solid Brass Ensemble opens the 34th season of Crescent Concerts on Sunday, October 11, at 3:00pm at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, New Jersey, with its concert, “A Sonic Spectacular.”

For many years, Solid Brass has been recognized by audiences and critics alike as one of the premier brass ensembles in America.  Consisting of ten brass musicians and a percussionist, it is truly unique in its ability to excite its audiences with wide ranging music from Handel, Gabrieli, Bizet and Wagner to Richard Rodgers, the Beach Boys and the Big Band era.  The Solid Brass ensemble plays it all with virtuosity and versatility.

Michael Redmond of the Star-Ledger exclaims, “They are like a breath of fresh air…and the audience ate it up.  For lovers of brass sound, Solid Brass could be the team to root for… Their sound was marked by smoothness, good taste, just measure and rhythmic incisiveness, making them a force to be reckoned with.”

The various members of Solid Brass have performed with many orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the New York City Ballet Orchestra.  They have been in the orchestra pits of several Broadway Shows including Spiderman, Hair, The Lion King, West Side Story and Gypsy.  Their recordings can be found on such labels as the Musical Heritage Society and Dorian Recordings.  They also have appeared on NJN (PBS) TV’s, “The State of the Arts.”  Solid Brass has been a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has performed in Mexico and Canada.

Its cofounder, Douglas Haislip, says of the Solid Brass ensemble, “We know why we do what we do…we help people dream or imagine the things that will inspire them… It is the power of music.”  And Solid Brass’ upcoming “A Sonic Spectacular” concert in the cathedral-like, acoustically alive Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church will certainly demonstrate that power.

Tickets for this Sunday, October 11 concert at 3:00pm can be purchased at the door the day of the concert, or are available during normal business hours at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Ave., Plainfield, NJ. Call 908-756-2468 or visit crescentconcerts.org/ for season subscriptions.  Ticket prices: General Admission-$20, Seniors-$15, Students-$5.  Ample free parking is available at the church located in Plainfield at 716 Watchung Ave.
