Saturday, June 16 was a beautiful day, perfect for kicking off UPL's fun-filled Summer Reading Program, 'Libraries Rock!', at both locations: the Main Library at 1980 Morris Avenue in Union, and the Vauxhall Branch Library at 123 Hilton Avenue in Vauxhall. The Friends of the Union Public Library, a 501(c)(3) registered charity, launched an expanded book sale, featuring books, DVDs, and CDs for children, teens, and adults. The book sale is ongoing. Patrons can choose to purchase items individually, or for only $10, they can buy a Friends bag for at the Reference Desk and fill it with book sale merchandise until July 16.

In addition to the opportunity to register for UPL's Summer Reading Program, during which participants can win prizes by reading throughout the summer, the SRP Kickoff last month featured a number of children's programs, including suncatcher painting, an animal presentation by Outragehisss Pets, as well as face painting by Miss Deb from Afrocentric Parties!

Even though summer is already a couple of weeks underway, it's not too late to register for the Summer Reading Program! There are three SRPs, all of which run until mid-August and are free of charge: one for children entering Kindergarten-6th grade, one for teens, and one for adults. Plus, there is a wide variety of events and activities happening throughout the summer, including hands-on craft sessions, science programs, musical performances, movie showings, and so much more.
