UNION, NJ – The Sumer Reading Program at the Union Public Library concluded on Thursday with an ice cream party and prize give-away.
As the Summer Reading Program progressed, students checked off a Bingo box upon completion of specific tasks. “Of course we encourage children to read over the summer,” said Library Director Karen O’Malley. “This just makes it more fun. Each time a child checked off a block on their Bingo card, they received a small prize.”
Children who completed the entire Bingo card were entered into the grand drawing for an iPad Mini 2.
“I liked that there was an excuse to get my parents to bring me to the library more often,” said 11-year old Lucia. “I love to read. Sometimes I’d come with my friend and we’d choose our prizes together.”
After the ice cream was dished out and children had an opportunity to add toppings like M&Ms, cookies and gummies, the random drawings began. Burnet Middle School student, Chinaenye, 11, won the grand prize of the iPad Mini 2. Many other names were then drawn for smaller prizes.
